What qualities does it take for someone to be successful at Godiva?
You have to be extremely organized because we're all based out of our home. We manage our own schedules and our own accounts very independently from the rest of the country. Also, one of my managers was influential in boosting my career along. All of Godiva's top management really was very supportive.

What’s the work culture like at Godiva?
I love it. I would never have stayed so long if I didn't love it. I think it's a great team atmosphere. Everyone pulls for the company. It's a great company to work for.

How does working at Godiva compare to your previous work experiences?
It's very different - as a buyer in a dept. store, you're going to an office 9 to 5. You're not travelling. You're working in a cubicle. In this position, it's the exact opposite. You're still negotiating like you are as a buyer, but you're travelling.

What do you do in your current position to help achieve Godiva’s "Gold Standard of customer service"?
If you do not have customers who come back time after time then you do not have a growing business. So, customer service is a very important job. If you get a customer that complains, that’s a very good thing because, if we can make them happy and turn them around, they're going to order again.

How does Godiva show it cares for its employees?
The helped me get my Master's. One of the reasons I was attracted to Godiva was the fact that Campbell's Soup offers tuition reimbursement for Master's programs. Also, I've been able to advance in this company for 14 years without having to move out of my home base in Detroit, and there's not one single department store headquarters in Michigan. That's a true testament to the company's willingness to grow your career no matter where you live.

What’s the most challenging thing about working at Godiva?
The travel - being away from your home base certainly takes its toll. But on the flip side, working out of your home is actually a benefit as well.

It's an extremely supportive company for me, my needs and my career path.
