Interactive Customer Service Manager
Ken moved from the catalog to taking care of customer service for the Internet business in Old Saybrook, CT.
Manager
Godiva Direct, Clinton, CT
Associate Marketing Manager
When Godiva’s Catalog Business moved their shipping facilities from the Reading plant to Clinton, CT, where Ken was working, he asked if there were any open positions. Godiva relocated him for a month to NYC to immerse him in the Godiva culture where he “fell in love with the product” and then returned to work out of the Clinton, CT, facility.

  My Favorite Godiva Chocolate:
Extra Dark Chocolate Truffle (coming out this fall): “As the new products come along, you find one you fall in love with.”

The Godiva chocolate that best represents my personality:
Lemon Ganache. “It’s classic Godiva in form and function, yet you have to be willing to take a chance with something (lemon) you normally don’t pair with chocolate."

What qualities does it take for someone to be successful at Godiva?
For people who are aggressive and want to go after things, it’s definitely the right company to work for, because you’re given somewhat free reign to do things as long as you’re still doing what you’re supposed to be doing. If you want to explore something else, you can. A lot of times it works out for the company as well as the individual, and in my case that’s what happened.

What’s the work culture like at Godiva?
In a word, great. Everyone is dedicated to Godiva. Everyone’s passionate about the business. When issues come up, nobody tries to point fingers – we all try and solve the problem. People are accountable for their actions. As long as I can make the people who work for me happy about coming to work, that makes me feel good about coming to work as well.

What do you do in your current position to help achieve Godiva’s “Gold Standard of customer service”?
We give the customer what they want when they want it, and if we can’t do that we figure out who can. Whether it’s fulfillment through a retail store or the direct business, if that’s what it takes, that’s what we’re gonna do.

How does Godiva show it cares for its employees?
Tomorrow I’m taking my team out to a Philly game! Because we had a great quarter, hit our mark, and brought it above the number. It’s about rewarding achievement – we don’t give people awards just for doing their job. When they go above and beyond, that’s when people feel good about it. That’s when it means something to the employee.

What’s the most challenging thing about working at Godiva?
Sometimes it’s just getting everyone on the same page at the same time, trying to coordinate schedules as we’ve grown. We don’t have masses of people to throw at projects. We have experts that know their project, and they know it well. So, when that person’s not available, we get a little bit stuck. We need that person.

What’s the best thing about working at Godiva?
The people.
