My Favorite Godiva Chocolate:
The Starfish, the Almond Butter Dome, the Ivory Raspberry Caramel Nut Bouchee.
The Godiva chocolate that best represents my personality:
Caramel Nut Bouchee: “Because it’s got the medallion of Lady Godiva on it, and I’m very conscious of the brand. Also, it’s a popular piece – something that customers absolutely love – and, in retail, I’m thinking about the customer every day.” |

What qualities does it take for someone to be successful at Godiva?
The most successful people here have been the ones who focused on the development of their people. That has to be something you have in your DNA. You have to understand how to get things done through others because you can’t sell enough personally to grow your store volume.
|
What's the work culture like at Godiva?
Even though Godiva is part of Campbell’s Soup Company, we really act like a very small company in some ways. You’re not some cog in a wheel of 50,000 employees. Your efforts can really be known and recognized. You have control over your own destiny. Godiva asked me what did I want to do, what were my interests. There’s an opportunity to do things that you’re well-suited for. They match skill sets with particular positions.
|
How does working at Godiva compare to your previous work experiences?
We’re in tune with whatever marketing decisions are being made on high. We’ve got a voice in some of those decisions and we’re informed about them. They say, here’s our overall objective and here’s how you fit into it. It’s a very open environment.
|
What do you do in your current position to help achieve Godiva’s "Gold Standard of customer service"?
We communicate about that a lot through our training. People who work for Godiva develop this relationship with the brand and the product. We’ve had many people who leave and return – I would say a good 30-40% of people who turn over end up coming back or trying to come back, which is probably not true of a lot of retail. We really do try to create a nurturing environment for our salespeople because if you’re happy in your job, you’re gonna do a great job for the customer.
|
How does Godiva show it cares for its employees?
We have a lot of recognition programs like Golden Touch, good benefits, and we’re competitive from a salary perspective. We don’t do commission because our business is so seasonal. But every store manager gets their own contest money, and they can decide how they’re going to spend it, which is somewhat unusual in the retail world.
|
What’s the most challenging thing about working at Godiva?
Making your result no matter what the situation. Retail’s pretty volatile. If the economy goes bad or some outside event happens, you’ve gotta find a way around those obstacles.
|
What’s the best thing about working at Godiva?
The best part for me is seeing the people that work for me growing and achieving what they want to achieve. That makes me happier than anything else.
